Location: Wirral

Hours: Full-time
Contract: Long-term placements
Pay: £95–£120 per day (dependent on experience)

About the Role

Teaching Personnel is supporting a range of well-regarded secondary, SEN, SEMH, and Alternative Provision schools across the Wirral with their staffing requirements for September 2026. We are seeking enthusiastic, dedicated, and compassionate Teaching Assistants to join schools across the borough on long-term, full-time placements for the new academic year.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students both academically and personally, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. You will work closely with pupils who may have additional needs, including SEMH, autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, and behavioural challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver targeted 1:1 and small-group interventions
  • Support students with a range of SEN, SEMH, and additional learning needs
  • Encourage positive behaviour and engagement in learning
  • Assist with the implementation of individual support plans and behaviour strategies
  • Promote student confidence, resilience, and independence
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external agencies
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback on student development
  • Support students with social, emotional, and pastoral needs
  • Uphold safeguarding procedures and promote student wellbeing at all times
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and supportive school culture

About You

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people. You will be patient, empathetic, and resilient, with the ability to build positive relationships and support students who may require additional guidance throughout the school day.

Whether your background is in education, youth work, mentoring, support work, residential care, sports coaching, or community-based roles, you will have the skills and commitment needed to positively impact student outcomes.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people in a professional setting
  • Previous experience within a UK secondary school or educational environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm, adaptable, and resilient in challenging situations
  • Confidence supporting students with a range of additional needs
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Right to work in the UK
  • GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent)

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
  • Experience supporting students with SEN, SEMH, or behavioural needs
  • Mentoring, youth work, sports coaching, or intervention-based experience
  • Team Teach, MAPA, or behaviour management training
  • Up-to-date safeguarding knowledge
