Location: Wirral

Hours: Full-time
Contract: Long-term placements
Pay: £90–£120 per day (dependent on experience)
About the Role
Teaching Personnel is proud to be supporting a trusted network of schools across the Wirral with their September recruitment. We are working closely with a number of secondary, specialist SEN, SEMH, and Alternative Provision settings to recruit dedicated Teaching Assistants for long-term opportunities starting in September.
These roles provide an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people who require additional support to access education. You will work alongside experienced teachers and specialist staff, supporting pupils with a range of needs including SEMH, ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, trauma-related behaviours, and moderate to complex learning needs.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual pupil needs
- Support students with SEMH, SEN, ASD, ADHD, and behavioural challenges
- Assist teachers in delivering engaging and accessible lessons
- Implement behaviour support strategies and individual learning plans
- Encourage pupil confidence, independence, and emotional regulation
- Build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers
- Monitor pupil progress and provide regular feedback to teaching staff
- Support personal care requirements where necessary
- Maintain high standards of safeguarding, behaviour management, and health & safety
- Help create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment
About You
We are looking for compassionate, resilient, and proactive individuals who are passionate about supporting children and young people to overcome barriers to learning.
You may have previous experience working within schools, alternative provisions, youth work settings, care environments, or other support-based roles. Most importantly, you will be able to build positive relationships, remain calm under pressure, and demonstrate a genuine commitment to helping pupils succeed.
Essential Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people in education, care, or support settings
- Experience within a UK school or educational environment
- Patient, adaptable, and positive approach to supporting learners
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work effectively within specialist and mainstream school settings
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
- Right to work in the UK
- GCSE English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above, or equivalent)
Desirable Skills & Experience
- NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)
- Experience supporting pupils with SEMH or within Alternative Provision settings
- Team Teach or other behaviour management training
- Safeguarding training and a strong understanding of child protection procedures

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
