1:1 Teaching Assistant – Makaton Trained
Location: Southampton
Hours: Full time
Start date: As soon as possible
Teaching Personnel are working with a welcoming school in Southampton to recruit an experienced 1:1 Teaching Assistant with Makaton training to support a pupil with additional needs.
This is a full-time role for someone who is passionate about inclusive education and confident using Makaton to support communication, engagement, and learning throughout the school day. You will work closely with class teachers, SEN staff, and external professionals to provide consistent, tailored support both in the classroom and during wider school activities.
The role will involve:

Providing dedicated 1:1 support to meet the pupil’s individual needs
-
Using Makaton effectively to support communication and understanding
-
Supporting learning, emotional regulation, and social interaction
-
Encouraging independence, confidence, and positive behaviour
-
Working collaboratively as part of a supportive school team
We are looking for someone who:
-
Has previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, ideally in a 1:1 SEN role

Is trained and confident in using Makaton
-
Is patient, adaptable, and committed to making a real difference
-
Has strong communication skills and a nurturing approach

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
