Job description

A welcoming and forward-thinking mainstream secondary school in Salisbury is looking to appoint a qualified and experienced Teaching Assistant to join their support team on a full-time basis from March 2026. This role offers the opportunity to work in a well-structured school environment where inclusion, student progress, and staff collaboration are central to everyday practice.

The appointed Teaching Assistant will play a key role in supporting students throughout the school day, working alongside class teachers to ensure pupils are fully supported both academically and socially. The role will involve in-class support across KS3 and KS4, as well as providing targeted interventions for students who require additional help to access the curriculum. Experience working with pupils who have SEND or EHCPs will be highly beneficial.

Key duties of the role will include:

  • Providing in-class support to students on a 1:1 and small-group basis

  • Supporting teaching staff with lesson delivery, classroom routines, and behaviour strategies

  • Delivering structured interventions to help close gaps in learning

  • Supporting students’ emotional wellbeing, confidence, and independence

  • Monitoring progress and feeding back to teachers and the wider support team

  • Upholding a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment

The school is seeking a Teaching Assistant who:

  • Holds a relevant Teaching Assistant qualification or has strong experience within a secondary school

  • Has a good understanding of the challenges faced by secondary-aged students

  • Is confident supporting learners with additional needs, including SEND and SEMH

  • Is patient, adaptable, and able to build positive relationships quickly

  • Works effectively as part of a wider pastoral and academic support team

The school offers a supportive leadership team, clear expectations, and a positive staff culture where Teaching Assistants are valued as an integral part of the school community. This position would suit an experienced Teaching Assistant looking for a long-term, full-time role within a mainstream secondary setting.

Start date: March 2026
Contract: Full-time

Appointment to this role is subject to an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
