Job description
We are seeking motivated and compassionate Psychology graduates to join primary and secondary schools across Trafford as Graduate Teaching Assistants. This role offers an excellent opportunity to apply psychological knowledge in a practical educational environment, gain experience supporting children with additional needs, and build a strong foundation for future careers in education, mental health, or therapeutic practice.
As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff to support pupils both academically and emotionally. Your responsibilities will include assisting with lesson delivery, providing one‑to‑one or small‑group support, and helping pupils with special educational needs such as autism, ADHD and SEMH needs. A key part of the role is contributing to a safe, inclusive and supportive learning atmosphere while monitoring progress and offering valuable feedback to the wider teaching team.
We welcome applications from recent or upcoming Psychology graduates (BSc or MSc) who have a genuine interest in supporting young people. Strong communication skills, empathy and patience are essential. While experience working with children—either paid or voluntary—is beneficial, it is not a requirement. You should be available to work during school hours, Monday to Friday, from 8:30am to 3:30pm.
In return, we offer comprehensive training and ongoing CPD opportunities, including courses in safeguarding, behaviour management and SEN support. Roles can be tailored to your availability and long-term career aspirations, making this an ideal stepping stone for those considering teacher training, Assistant Psychologist posts, or further postgraduate study.
If you are a Psychology graduate looking to make a meaningful impact on young people’s lives while gaining valuable school-based experience, we would love to hear from you. Please apply with your CV, and a member of our team will be in touch to discuss the next steps.
Start your journey in Trafford today and help shape the learning experience for pupils who need it most.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
