Job description

Full-Time Teaching Assistant – MLD Base

Location: Bridgend, South Wales

Sector: Secondary/SEN

Start Date: September 2026

Contract Type: Full-Time, Term Time Only

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

 

Are you passionate about supporting young people with additional learning needs? Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a well-regarded Secondary Comprehensive School in Bridgend to recruit a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join their team from September 2026.

This is a full-time role working with pupils who access the Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) base, supporting learners across dedicated MLD classes within their year groups. These classes access a near full timetable across the curriculum with specialised and tailored lessons. The successful candidate will play a key role in helping to meet the educational, social, and emotional needs of pupils with additional learning needs.

 

Responsibilities:

· Support pupils in MLD classes with their learning, under the direction of the class teacher and ALNCo.

· Deliver targeted interventions to help pupils access the curriculum.

· Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment tailored to individual needs.

· Support pupils with communication, literacy, numeracy, and life skills development.

· Assist with classroom management and pupil engagement.

· Contribute to progress tracking and personalised learning plans.

 

Ideal Candidate:

· Experience working with children or young people with additional learning needs, particularly in an educational or care setting.

· Calm, patient, and empathetic approach to working with pupils.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

· A willingness to be adaptable and work collaboratively with staff across the school.

· A relevant qualification in education or child development is desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
