Job description

Are you passionate about supporting young people with Autism and making a genuine difference every day? We are seeking a compassionate, resilient and adaptable Teaching Assistant to join a specialist secondary provision in Bournemouth that supports students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).

Our students present with a wide range of needs. Some young people may communicate their difficulties through behaviours that challenge, while others may internalise their struggles through anxiety, withdrawal or low confidence. Successful applicants must be able to build positive relationships and provide consistent support to all students, recognising that every young person experiences and expresses their needs differently.

The role will involve:

  • Supporting students both within the classroom and around the school environment
  • Assisting pupils with emotional regulation, communication and social interaction
  • Encouraging engagement in learning and promoting independence
  • Supporting students during moments of dysregulation or heightened anxiety using a calm and therapeutic approach
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and pastoral staff to meet individual student needs
  • Helping to maintain a safe, structured and nurturing environment for all learners

We are looking for individuals who:

  • Have experience working with children within education, care, youth work or support work
  • Are patient, empathetic and emotionally resilient
  • Have a genuine passion for working with young people with additional needs
  • Can remain calm under pressure and adapt to a variety of situations
  • Are confident supporting both students with external behaviours and those with quieter, more internalised needs
  • Understand the importance of consistency, boundaries and relationship building
  • Work well as part of a team and are willing to learn

This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity to become part of a dedicated team and positively impact the lives of young people every single day.
