Teaching Assistants – SEMH Specialist School (Primary Age 5–11)
Temp to Perm Opportunity | Full-Time | Term Time Only

We are seeking dedicated Teaching Assistants to join a specialist SEMH school supporting pupils aged 5–11. This is a highly rewarding opportunity for individuals who understand the importance of trauma-informed practice and are motivated to make a lasting difference in the lives of young people who need it most.
About the role
You will work closely with teaching staff to support pupils who may have experienced trauma, disrupted attachments, and challenges with behaviour and emotional regulation. Your role will be key in helping to create a safe, predictable, and nurturing environment where children feel understood, supported, and ready to learn.
This is a temp to perm opportunity, offering the chance to secure a permanent role following a successful initial period.
Key responsibilities:
- Supporting pupils with SEMH needs on a 1:1 and small group basis
- Building strong, trusting, and consistent relationships with children
- Supporting emotional regulation using trauma-informed approaches
- Assisting in the delivery of engaging and accessible learning activities
- Responding calmly and effectively to behaviours that challenge
- Promoting a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with children with SEMH needs, trauma, or behavioural challenges (education or care background welcomed)
- Has a strong understanding of attachment, trauma, and emotional regulation strategies
- Is patient, empathetic, and able to remain calm under pressure
- Can build positive relationships and act as a consistent, trusted adult
- Is committed to full-time work and able to work Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 16:00 (term time only)
- Is passionate about supporting vulnerable children to succeed

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
