1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant – Bournemouth

Full-Time | Long-Term Opportunity | November Start

Are you a compassionate, patient and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant with experience supporting children with Autism and additional needs?

We are currently seeking a dedicated 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream school in Bournemouth, supporting a child with Autism on a full-time, long-term basis from November.

The Role

As a 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with one child throughout the school day, providing consistent and personalised support to help them access the mainstream curriculum, develop their communication and social skills, manage their emotions and build confidence and independence.

You will work alongside the class teacher and wider school team to ensure the child feels supported, included and able to engage positively in school life.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a child with Autism and additional needs
  • Supporting the child to access learning and participate in classroom activities
  • Helping develop communication, social interaction and emotional regulation skills
  • Supporting positive behaviour through consistent strategies and routines
  • Helping the child manage transitions and changes throughout the school day
  • Supporting sensory needs and providing reassurance when required
  • Encouraging independence, confidence and engagement
  • Building a positive and trusting relationship with the child
  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and other professionals
  • Monitoring progress and contributing to discussions around the child's individual needs

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in supporting children or young people with Autism or additional needs
  • Patient, calm, nurturing and consistent in their approach
  • Confident providing 1:1 support within a mainstream classroom
  • Able to build strong, positive relationships with children
  • Understanding of behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies
  • A strong communicator who works well as part of a wider team
  • Passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning and reach their potential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
