Job description

Role: Teaching Assistant

Location: Central Bedfordshire (across multiple campuses)

Salary/Benefits: £23,557 – £26,754 per annum (pro rata, DOE and qualifications). Benefits include People’s Pension, retail and leisure discounts, and excellent professional and personal development opportunities, including access to further college courses.

Hours: 37 hours per week, 36 weeks per year (term time)
Contract Type: Permanent

About the Role

Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a well-established Further Education provider to recruit a Teaching Assistant to join their Foundation Learning and Additional Learning Support team.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support students with SEND and help them access education, develop independence, and achieve their individual goals.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Student Support: Provide 1:1 and small group support to learners with SEND across a range of courses (Entry Level to Level 3), adapting approaches to meet individual needs.
  • Learning Support Delivery: Assist in preparing and maintaining learning resources, support classroom activities, and monitor progress against EHCP outcomes.
  • Collaboration & Teamwork: Work closely with teaching staff and ALS leaders, attend team meetings, support new team members, and contribute to student transition and engagement events.
  • Administration & Compliance: Maintain accurate records including support plans, ISPs, and review documentation, while adhering to safeguarding and welfare responsibilities.
  • Professional Practice: Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion, and health & safety, while engaging in ongoing training and development.

About You

We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate individual who is passionate about supporting learners with additional needs.

Essential requirements:

  • Level 2 qualification in English and Maths
  • A relevant Level 3 qualification (or willingness to work towards)
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)

Experience & Skills:

  • Experience supporting young people with SEND in an educational or care setting
  • Understanding of SEND and strategies to support diverse learners
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and telephone)
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and maintain accurate records

Personal qualities:

  • Positive, patient, and adaptable approach
  • Ability to build effective and professional relationships with students
  • Strong team player with the ability to work independently

  • Willingness to work across multiple sites
  • Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and maintaining professional boundaries

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
