Job description

Role: Technician – Construction and Trades

Location: Bedford 

Salary/Benefits: £23,557 – £26,754 per annum (pro rata, DOE and qualifications). Benefits include 27 days annual leave (pro rata) plus Bank Holidays, People’s Pension, retail and leisure discounts, and excellent professional and personal development opportunities, including access to further college courses.

Hours: 18.5 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
Contract Type: Permanent, Part Time

About the Role

Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a well-established Further Education provider to recruit a Technician in Construction and Trades to support a busy and practical learning environment.

This is a hands-on role where you will play a key part in supporting both staff and students within construction-based workshops, helping to ensure a safe, engaging, and effective learning experience.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Workshop Support: Provide practical support to lecturers and trainers within Plumbing workshops, with flexibility to assist across wider Construction trade areas when required.
  • Tools & Equipment Maintenance: Maintain, service, and repair tools and equipment, prepare workshop areas, and ensure all spaces are safe, clean, and fit for purpose.
  • Stock Control & Procurement: Manage stores systems, oversee stock levels, coordinate purchasing of tools and consumables, and maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Learner Support: Assist students during practical sessions, support their progress, and contribute to maintaining positive behaviour and a safe learning environment.
  • Health & Safety & Compliance: Conduct risk and COSHH assessments, uphold safeguarding and health & safety standards, and support wider departmental activities including events and site operations.

About You

We are looking for a practical, organised, and proactive individual with a background in construction who is keen to support the next generation of learners.

Essential requirements:

  • Level 2 NVQ or Diploma in a construction-related trade
  • GCSE English and Maths (or willingness to achieve)
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)

Experience & Skills:

  • Practical experience within the construction industry
  • Strong knowledge of workshop health & safety practices
  • Ability to maintain, repair, and manage tools, equipment, and materials
  • Good organisational skills with experience in stock control or inventory management

  • Positive and proactive approach
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while supporting a wider team
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe and inclusive learning environment

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
