Higher Teaching Assistant (SEN)

Location: Luton
Salary: £85–£120 per day (dependent on experience)
Hours: 8:30am–3:30pm (may vary by up to 45 minutes), Monday–Friday, term time only
Contract: Full-time

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join a warm, inclusive school community in Luton. You will work closely with children with SEN, providing vital support both inside and outside the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEN.
  • Assist learning during lessons and support pupils during break and lunchtimes.
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher on daily classroom activities.
  • Help maintain an organised, safe, and engaging classroom environment.
  • Encourage a positive, inclusive atmosphere where every child can succeed.

Who We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience working with SEN children (desirable but not essential).
  • Be patient, reliable, and committed to supporting young people.
  • Show strong initiative and a proactive approach.
  • Hold, or be willing to obtain, an Enhanced DBS (Update Service).
  • Have permanent UK residency (essential).

Safer Recruitment

As part of our safeguarding commitment, all applicants will be required to:

  • Undergo an Enhanced DBS check (Update Service — can be arranged via Teaching Personnel).
  • Provide two recent professional references (covering the past 24 months).
  • Complete an Overseas Police Check if you have lived abroad for 6+ months within the last 5 years.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
