A comprehensive school in Cardiff is expected to welcome several pupils with statements who will need full time support in September. As the secondary school met with its cluster primary’s prior to the COVID-19 pandemic resulting in school closures, they have been able to make preparations behind the scenes. The goal is that the New Year 7 intake will start fresh when the doors re-open with a support team who are focused on making sure the new school year is consistent and focused on making sure learning is tailored to each individual pupil.
The school is in a predominantly deprived area of Cardiff, however a recent amalgamation of two rival comprehensives has seen a brand new facility been constructed which contains a state of the art ALN department, vocational resource hub (hair salon, mechanic studio and gym), as well as 4G pitches, performing arts spaces endorsed by the BBC and Welsh National Opera, and an impressive sixth form unit which aims to encourage more pupils within the area to consider further education.
As you will be based with a year 7 pupil with various special needs you will need to be confident when dealing with challenging behaviour and remaining firm but fair. The pupil has come from a very supportive family however the consistency to her learning in primary school was often disrupted by several LSA’s having to finish work mid-way through the term because of holidays or other commitments which impacted on the pupil’s confidence in building rapport with adults.
As a result, the school is looking for someone who wants to begin a career in this line of work. The pupil has been diagnosed with autism, ADHD and global delay. Although the school are not expecting someone to be an expert within these areas, they are looking for candidates who can demonstrate the ability to remain calm and to be assertive. The pupil Is female and although will be 11 years old in September, has the reading and writing ability of a 4 year old. The pupil does have a very sweet nature and with the right, consistent rapport in place from the start, will come on leaps and bounds in a secondary school environment.
- Full time position
- GBP60-GBP65 daily rate
- Progression throughout the school
- The school will wand to take the successful candidate onto a permanent contract after a successful probation period
- Experience with additional learning needs is desirable, but a great work ethic and team spirit are essential!
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see teachingpersonnel.com/faqs for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later
