Teaching Assistant (SEN / Alternative Provision)

Hours: 33.75 hours per week

Weeks: 39 weeks per year (38 weeks term time + 1 week training)

Salary: Grade E, Points 4–5 (£25,185 – £25,583 FTE)

Location: Northampton, NN1

An exciting opportunity has arisen for ambitious, self-motivated Teaching Assistants to join a specialist alternative education provision for children aged 5–11. This setting supports pupils whose needs cannot be met within a mainstream environment, particularly those with social, emotional and behavioural needs.

The successful candidate will work alongside a dedicated team of teachers and support staff to deliver high-quality, bespoke learning packages that enable pupils to thrive both academically and socially.

About the Role

The Teaching Assistant will play a key role in supporting pupils’ learning, wellbeing and personal development. Responsibilities include:

  • Mentoring, supporting and inspiring learners in classroom-based lessons and through outdoor and practical activities

  • Assisting with the preparation of learning materials and supporting the delivery of learning objectives

  • Supporting pupils’ social and emotional development using appropriate assessment tools

  • Producing daily reports on pupil progress and identifying barriers to learning

  • Working collaboratively with teachers, senior leaders and other professionals

  • Building positive relationships with parents and carers

  • Actively contributing to safeguarding and welfare procedures

About You

  • Have strong English and Maths skills

  • Are keen to work in an alternative education setting

  • Demonstrate a positive, patient and resourceful approach

  • Are committed to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare

  • Hold a full UK driving licence and have the right to work in the UK

Training and Development

Ongoing training and professional development opportunities are available. Staff are encouraged to undertake further study and may be supported to gain relevant professional qualifications.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
