SEND Teaching Assistant (Permanent Position)

Location: Leicester
Salary: £92.63 a day /£14.25 per hour
Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a specialist SEND school to recruit a dedicated and compassionate SEND Teaching Assistant for a permanent, full-time position.

This role is ideal for individuals who already have experience supporting children or adults with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), or those who have gained valuable knowledge and understanding through personal experience. You may have a background in care, support work, residential care, healthcare, youth work, or perhaps have supported a family member or loved one with additional needs.

About the Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with a range of complex needs, helping them to access education, develop independence, and achieve their full potential.

You will work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to create a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment where every student can thrive.

This is a highly rewarding position, but it can also be physically and emotionally demanding. We are therefore looking for resilient individuals who are passionate about supporting young people and can remain calm, patient, and positive in challenging situations.

Due to the nature of the students and the specialist setting, it is important that applicants fully understand the responsibilities and challenges of the role.

As part of our duty of care to both staff and students, we ask candidates to carefully consider the following:

  • Students may display behaviours that challenge. On occasion, staff may be exposed to incidents involving throwing objects, hitting, kicking, scratching, or biting.
  • The role may involve positive handling and physical intervention when required to ensure the safety of students and staff. Full training will be provided.
  • Some students require support with personal care, including toileting, changing, feeding, and other daily living tasks. The level of support varies depending on the student's needs, and full training will be provided.
  • The role may involve supporting students during swimming activities. Applicants should be comfortable entering the water to support students if required.
  • An Enhanced DBS Certificate registered on the Update Service is essential, or applicants must be willing to apply for one through Teaching Personnel.
  • This is a full-time, permanent position, and we are seeking individuals who can commit to the role long-term.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
