Job description

SEND / SEMH Teachers – Primary & Secondary Opportunities (Hailsham Area)

This specialist SEMH school supports primary and secondary pupils who have not always found success in mainstream education.

Behaviour can be challenging at times, but staff work within a clear, consistent framework and are never expected to manage difficult situations alone. Collaboration, emotional safety and strong relationships underpin everything the school does.

We are seeking SEND / SEMH Teachers who are confident, reflective and motivated by teaching in a setting where regulation and relationships come before results.

The Role

  • Teaching small classes of pupils with SEMH needs
  • Planning and delivering accessible, engaging lessons
  • Creating structured, predictable classroom environments
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Working closely with support staff and pastoral teams
  • Supporting both academic learning and emotional development

This is a role for teachers who value impact over pace and progress over perfection.

Who This Role Will Suit

  • Teachers with QTS (or working towards it)
  • Calm, reflective practitioners confident managing behaviour
  • Teachers who understand behaviour as communication
  • Those open to learning trauma-informed and SEMH-specific approaches
  • Mainstream teachers seeking a more relational, values-led environment

Previous SEMH experience is beneficial but not essential. Strong classroom presence and mindset are key.

What the School Offers

  • Highly supportive leadership
  • A close-knit, welcoming staff team
  • Strong pastoral structures and behaviour systems
  • A culture that genuinely prioritises staff wellbeing

Practical Information

  • Opportunities available across the Hailsham area
  • Immediate and upcoming roles
  • A child-only DBS is required for school-based work — support will be provided if needed
