SEN Tutor
Job description
We’re looking for dedicated, experienced tutors in the Witney area who are ready to take on a role that extends beyond academic teaching.
If you’re an educator who understands that some young people need more than just a lesson plan they need consistency, patience, and someone who genuinely understands them then we’d love to hear from you.
Who You’ll Be Supporting
We receive a high volume of referrals for both primary and secondary-aged pupils, many of whom have SEMH and other complex needs.
Our primary referrals typically come from schools seeking targeted, personalised interventions.
Our secondary referrals often involve students who may:
- Be out of school or attending on reduced timetables
- Have experienced difficulties in mainstream education
- Require structured, calm, and consistent support to rebuild their confidence
Whether working with primary or secondary pupils, your role will focus on helping young people reconnect with learning at their own pace while maintaining clear direction and expectations.
Availability Requirements
- A minimum commitment of 10–15 hours per week
- Availability during core hours of 8:30am–3:30pm
- Monday to Friday availability is essential
Consistency and reliability are fundamental. The pupils we support benefit from routine, stability, and predictable support.
More Than Just Teaching
Professionalism and effective communication are key aspects of this role.
Tutors will be expected to:
- Accurately record and report attendance
- Monitor and document both academic and emotional progress
- Produce clear, professional feedback that can be shared with schools and other professionals
- Maintain high standards of safeguarding and record keeping
- Be available to start in the September term
Your reports may contribute to discussions involving schools and external agencies, making attention to detail and clear communication essential.
Your Background
We welcome applications from tutors with experience in:
- Primary or secondary schools (mainstream or specialist)
- Alternative provision
- Private tuition
- Pastoral or youth-based roles
Essential qualities include:
- Strong behaviour management with an empathetic approach
- Experience supporting pupils with SEMH or complex needs
- Confidence working independently
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Resilience and emotional intelligence
Why This Role Matters
Progress isn’t always reflected by a straightforward set of data.
Sometimes, progress looks like:
- A primary pupil beginning to believe in their own abilities
- A secondary student completing an entire session without disengaging
- A young person rebuilding their trust in education
If you’re passionate about making a meaningful, measurable difference and can commit to consistent hours in the Oxford area, we’d love to hear from you.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
