Sen Teaching Assistant
Job description
SEN Teaching Assistant – Part-Time Permanent Opportunity
Bring Experience, Patience and Purpose
Teaching Personnel is looking for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist setting in Yeovil on a part-time, permanent basis.
You’ll be supporting children and young people with severe and profound learning difficulties. Pupils may also have autism, physical, sensory or medical needs, so support is highly individualised.
Communication and interaction are central to helping pupils have greater choice, independence and involvement in their everyday lives.
What Does the Role Involve?
- Work alongside teaching staff to deliver personalised learning.
- Provide focused 1:1 and small-group assistance.
- Support pupils with communication and interaction.
- Help young people access activities at a pace appropriate to them.
- Encourage independence, confidence and participation.
- Follow EHCPs, individual strategies and established routines.
- Assist with pupils’ wider physical or personal support where required.
- Build trusting relationships while maintaining clear and consistent expectations.
What Do the Pupils Need From You?
They need someone who notices the things that others might miss.
You’ll need to be calm, patient, encouraging and responsive, particularly when a pupil communicates differently or needs additional time to process what is happening. Being able to adapt your approach rather than expecting the child to adapt to you is essential.
We are specifically looking for candidates with previous SEND experience. You should already feel comfortable within a specialist environment and be capable of hitting the ground running from your first weeks in the role.
Why Join Teaching Personnel?
Teaching Personnel offers weekly pay, access to professional development through the CPD Academy and straightforward online management through myTP, alongside ongoing support throughout your education career. [teachingpe...sonnel.com], [teachingpe...sonnel.com]
