Teaching Personnel is seeking an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in the Yeovil area on a full-time basis from September 2026, with the opportunity for an earlier start for the right candidate.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated and knowledgeable individual who has previous experience supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs.

We are looking for someone who can confidently hit the ground running, quickly establish positive relationships, and become an integral part of a highly supportive team.

About the Role

Working closely alongside teachers and other education professionals, you will provide tailored support that enables pupils to access learning, develop independence, and achieve their individual outcomes.

  • Delivering high-quality one-to-one and small-group support.
  • Assisting with differentiated learning activities across the curriculum.
  • Supporting pupils with a range of additional learning needs, including communication, social, emotional and sensory differences.
  • Promoting positive behaviour through consistent and encouraging strategies.
  • Helping pupils develop independence, confidence and resilience.
  • Preparing classroom resources and adapting learning materials where required.
  • Recording observations and contributing towards pupil progress.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists and wider professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes.
  • Maintaining a safe, inclusive and engaging learning environment.

  • Previous experience working within an SEN or specialist education setting.
  • The confidence to step straight into the role with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A patient, proactive and resilient approach.
  • The ability to build strong, professional relationships with pupils and colleagues.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
