SEN Teaching Assistant – Full Time – Thornton (Primary School, Year 3)

Start: ASAP
Contract: Full time until July 2026, with potential to continue into September 2026
Location: Thornton

Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Thornton (FY5), supporting a pupil in Year 3 with complex special educational needs. This is a full‑time position running until the end of the summer term, with the strong possibility of extension into September 2026.

About the Role

You will be working on a one‑to‑one basis with a child who requires tailored support to access learning and daily routines. The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to ensure the pupil receives consistent, structured, and nurturing support throughout the school day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide personalised 1:1 support tailored to the child’s SEN profile
  • Assist with emotional regulation, sensory needs, communication and engagement
  • Adapt learning materials to ensure accessibility and progress
  • Build a positive, trusting relationship with the pupil
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and specialist teams
  • Support the pupil’s social, emotional and academic development in line with their EHCP

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience supporting children with complex SEN (autism, communication needs, SEMH or similar)
  • A patient, calm and proactive approach
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team
  • A genuine passion for helping children thrive and reach their potential
  • Availability for a full‑time role until July, with potential continuation
