SEN Teaching Assistant – Secondary School in Tameside

Support Students with Special Educational Needs in a Meaningful Way
Do you have a passion for working with students who have special educational needs (SEN)? We’re looking for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a secondary school in Tameside. In this role, you will be providing vital support to students with a range of SEN, helping them overcome challenges and succeed both academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with special educational needs, enabling them to access the curriculum and engage with their learning.
  • Assist in implementing individualised education plans (IEPs) and other strategies to support students’ needs.
  • Help students with personal care tasks when necessary, providing them with a sense of independence and dignity.
  • Offer emotional support to students, building their confidence and ensuring they feel comfortable in their learning environment.
  • Work closely with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and other staff members to monitor student progress and ensure appropriate interventions are in place.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and promote social and emotional development, using tailored approaches to meet individual needs.
  • Support students in extracurricular activities, helping them to develop skills outside of the classroom.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience working with students who have SEN, particularly in a secondary school setting, is preferred.
  • A caring, patient, and empathetic nature, with a genuine desire to help students achieve their potential.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work closely with teachers, support staff, and parents.
  • A proactive approach, able to adapt to different student needs and provide tailored support.
  • An understanding of the different types of SEN and the best practices for supporting students with these needs.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
