SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Stockport, SK7

Position: SEN Teaching Assistant

Contract Type: Short-term / Long-term, Temporary

Pay Rate: £90 – £100 per day

We are partnering with a friendly, inclusive primary school located in Stockport (SK7) who are seeking a committed Level 2 SEN Teaching Assistant to provide effective 1:1 support for pupils with additional needs. The school is known for its nurturing ethos, strong community feel, and its dedication to helping every child develop confidence, resilience, and a love of learning.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role within the school’s support team, helping pupils with a range of SEND and SEMH needs reach their academic and personal potential. You will collaborate closely with teachers, the SENCO, and the wider pastoral team to deliver tailored support that promotes progress, engagement, and emotional wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities of an SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Support the class teacher with daily lessons and general classroom duties.
  • Collaborate with pupils on a 1:1 basis or in small groups to reinforce learning and provide targeted intervention.
  • Follow and implement personalised support plans for pupils with SEND/SEMH needs.
  • Assist in preparing classroom materials and learning resources.
  • Promote positive behaviour, routines, and emotional resilience.
  • Contribute to assessments, observations, and monitoring pupil progress.
  • Supervise pupils during breaktimes, activities, and school trips as required.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Comply with all safeguarding and child protection procedures.

Key Requirements of an SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Level 2 or 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent).
  • Effective communication skills and GCSE English & Maths (grade C/4 or above).
  • Previous experience working as an SEN Teaching Assistant.
  • Good understanding of SEND, SEMH strategies, and safeguarding.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive, child-centred approach to support.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
