SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Stockport, SK2

Position: SEN Teaching Assistant

Contract Type: Short-term / Long-term, Temporary

Pay Rate: £90 – £100 per day

We are working in partnership with a warm, supportive primary school in Stockport (SK2) who are looking to recruit a dedicated Level 2 SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for pupils with additional needs. The school prides itself on nurturing every child as an individual, helping them to grow in confidence, develop resilience, and make the most of every learning opportunity.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be an integral part of the school’s support team, helping pupils with a range of SEND and SEMH needs to achieve both academically and emotionally. You will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and pastoral staff to deliver structured, personalised support that promotes progress and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities of an SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Support the class teacher with daily lessons and classroom activities.
  • Collaborate with pupils on a 1:1 basis or in small groups to reinforce learning and provide targeted support.
  • Implement personalised support plans for pupils with SEND/SEMH needs.
  • Assist with the preparation of classroom materials and resources.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, routines, and emotional resilience.
  • Contribute to pupil assessments, observations, and progress monitoring.
  • Supervise pupils during breaks, activities, and school trips where required.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
  • Adhere to all safeguarding and child protection policies.

Key Requirements of an SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Level 2 or 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent).
  • Effective communication and people skills, with GCSE English and Maths (grade C/4 or above).
  • Previous experience working as an SEN Teaching Assistant.
  • Solid understanding of safeguarding, SEND needs, and SEMH support strategies.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive approach to supporting children’s behaviour and learning.
