SEMH SEN Teaching Assistant – Reading
Teaching Personnel is seeking dedicated and resilient SEMH SEN Teaching Assistants to support pupils in specialist SEMH and SEN schools across the Reading area.
Role: SEMH SEN Teaching Assistant
Start Date: As soon as vetting is completed
Contract: Flexible opportunities – long-term, short-term, and permanent roles available
About the Role:
You will be supporting children and young people aged 5–18 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Many pupils may also have additional needs such as ADHD, autism, trauma-related behaviours, and attachment difficulties.
Your responsibilities will include:

Providing 1:1 and small group support
-
Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour
-
Using de-escalation and behaviour management strategies
-
Encouraging engagement with learning and routines
-
Building positive, consistent relationships with pupils

You will be working within specialist SEMH and SEN provisions, including alternative provisions and specialist schools, that offer structured, supportive environments focused on emotional wellbeing, consistency, and positive outcomes.

About You:
We are looking for individuals who are:

Passionate about supporting young people with SEMH needs

Calm, patient, and emotionally resilient
-
Confident or willing to learn how to manage challenging behaviour

Flexible and reliable
Experience in SEMH, SEN, youth work, care, mental health, or behaviour support is highly desirable but not essential. If you’re motivated and eager to learn, full training and guidance will be provided.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
