SEN Teaching Assistant
Job description
We are looking for a compassionate, patient and enthusiastic SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join our supportive primary school team. This role involves working closely with a child who has additional learning needs, providing tailored support to help them access the curriculum, develop confidence, and thrive both academically and socially.
SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant – Primary School
Position: SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant
Contract: Full-time
Location: Burnley
Start Date: Monday 13th April 2026
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with Special Educational Needs in line with their EHCP.
- Adapt learning materials and activities to ensure accessibility and engagement.
- Support the pupil’s emotional regulation, social development and independence.
- Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SENCo and external professionals.
- Implement personalised strategies, interventions and behaviour support plans.
- Maintain accurate notes and contribute to progress reviews.
- Foster a nurturing, inclusive and encouraging classroom environment.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience supporting children with SEN (e.g., autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs) is highly desirable.
- A calm, positive and proactive approach.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to build trusting relationships with children and staff.
- A willingness to learn and implement new strategies.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 TA, SEND training) are beneficial but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
