Part-Time SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant – Flexible Work for University Students
North Manchester | Ideal for Education & Social Science Students

Are you a university student or recent graduate looking to gain hands-on experience working with children and young people? We are currently recruiting flexible, part-time Teaching Assistants to work on a day-to-day or short-term basis within a range of SEN and SEMH school settings across Bury.

This role is perfect for students studying Education, Psychology, Social Sciences, Youth Work, Criminology or related fields who want practical experience to support their future career—while keeping a schedule that fits around lectures, placements and exams.

The Role

As a Teaching Assistant, you will support students with additional learning, social or emotional needs, helping them engage with learning in a positive, structured environment. Work is offered on a flexible basis, allowing you to choose the days you are available.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting Teachers in SEN and SEMH classrooms on a day-to-day basis.
  • Providing individual or small-group support to pupils with additional needs.
  • Helping create a calm, safe and encouraging learning environment.
  • Building confidence, social skills and emotional wellbeing in young people.
  • Gaining valuable experience in behaviour support, safeguarding and inclusive practice.

Who We’re Looking For

Ideal for:

  • University students (Education, Psychology, Social Sciences, Youth Work etc.)
  • Recent graduates looking to build experience before entering teaching or support roles

Essential:

  • Experience working with children or young people in any setting (schools, tutoring, mentoring, coaching, care, youth groups etc.)
  • Flexible availability – choose the days that fit your timetable
  • A positive, patient and proactive approach
  • An up-to-date DBS on the update service (we can assist with your retrieval of this is you don’t already have one.)

Preferred but Not Required:

  • Experience working with individuals with additional/ complex needs
  • Interest in pursuing careers in teaching, psychology, pastoral work or youth support

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
