SEN Teaching Assistant


Location: Bournemouth, Dorset
Salary: £13.75 per hour
Start Date: Immediate / Flexible

 

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children with special educational needs? This is your opportunity to join a dedicated team as an SEN Teaching Assistant in a supportive SEN/PRU Primary School in Bournemouth.

 

About the Role:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with classroom teachers to provide tailored support for pupils aged 4–11 with a range of special educational needs and behavioural challenges. These may include ADHD, ADD, ASD, CD, MLD, OCD, ODD, SEMH, speech and language difficulties, and other behavioural needs. Your role will be vital in creating a safe, structured, and positive learning environment where every child can thrive.

What We’re Looking For:
• Comfortable working in a PRU (Pupil Referral Unit) environment
• Patient, resilient, and compassionate with a creative approach to supporting children
• Experience with SEN or mental health, either in education or other settings
• Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers and support staff
• Understanding of positive behaviour support strategies
• Skilled at de-escalating challenging situations calmly and safely

 

Working Hours and Benefits:
• Full-time, part time and flexible availability considered
• Monday-Friday
• Access to over 10 free SEN training courses through Teaching Personnel, plus additional discounted courses
• 12.07% holiday pay
• Term-time only

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
