Teaching Assistants & Teachers – SEN Schools (Reading)

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with special educational needs?

Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a number of SEN schools across Reading, who are seeking dedicated Teaching Assistants and qualified Teachers to join their teams. These schools support pupils aged 4–19 with a wide range of needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • ADHD
  • Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD)
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)

The Roles

Teaching Assistants

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with additional needs
  • Support the class teacher with engaging, differentiated lessons
  • Use behaviour management and de-escalation strategies where required
  • Help pupils access the curriculum and develop social and life skills
  • Support pupils with personal care where appropriate (training provided)
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and other professionals

Teachers

As an SEN Teacher, you will:

  • Plan and deliver creative, inclusive lessons tailored to individual needs
  • Adapt teaching approaches to support pupils with complex learning needs
  • Manage classroom behaviour using positive behaviour strategies
  • Monitor progress and contribute to EHCPs and reviews
  • Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants and external professionals
  • Create a safe, nurturing, and structured learning environment

What We’re Looking For

Teaching Assistants:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN (education, care, or voluntary settings)
  • A patient, empathetic, and calm approach
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Child and Adult DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)

Teachers:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or equivalent
  • Experience teaching pupils with SEN (desirable but not essential)
  • Strong behaviour management and differentiation skills
  • Passion for inclusive education

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
