Job description

SEN Support Assistant – School Setting BB5

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Support Assistant to join a specialist school setting in BB5, supporting children and young people who require a personalised and nurturing approach to education.

The setting provides an inclusive environment for pupils with Special Educational Needs, including SEMH, autism, ADHD, and additional social and emotional needs. Many pupils may have experienced difficulties in mainstream education, and the focus is on rebuilding confidence, re‑engaging them with learning, and supporting positive behaviour through strong routines and relationships.

The Role:

  • Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to pupils with SEN to help them access learning and manage emotions.
  • Support pupils presenting with challenging behaviour using calm, consistent, and positive behaviour strategies.
  • Work closely with teaching staff and the SEN team to deliver tailored support and interventions.
  • Help maintain structure, routines, and a safe learning environment that promotes wellbeing.
  • Support pupils’ social, emotional, and academic development both inside and outside the classroom.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Has experience working with children or young people with SEN, SEMH, or behavioural needs (school or care settings).
  • Is patient, resilient, and confident in managing challenging situations.
  • Has a good understanding of safeguarding and the importance of consistency and boundaries.
  • Works well as part of a team and communicates effectively with staff and pupils.
  • Is passionate about helping pupils re‑engage with education and achieve positive outcomes.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone looking to make a real difference within a supportive and specialist school environment.
