SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant – Full Time
Location: Guildford, Surrey
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Full-Time | Term Time Only

We are currently recruiting experienced and dedicated SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistants to join specialist schools across Guildford. These full-time positions offer an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The Role

As an SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will provide tailored support to students both inside and outside the classroom, helping them to access learning, develop social skills, and achieve positive outcomes. You will work closely with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to create a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEN and SEMH needs.

  • Support students with emotional regulation, behaviour management, and social development.

  • Assist teachers in delivering personalised learning programmes.

  • Promote a positive, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment.

  • Support students with communication, independence, and life skills.

  • Record and monitor student progress, reporting observations to teaching staff.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN and/or SEMH needs is essential.

  • Experience within a specialist school, alternative provision, care setting, or similar environment is highly desirable.

  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills.

  • A patient, resilient, and empathetic approach.

  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.

  • Relevant qualifications in Education, Childcare, Psychology, Health & Social Care, or related fields are advantageous.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
