SEN KS1 Teaching Assistant

Job description

We are looking for a caring and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our primary school team in KS1. This role involves supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) to access learning, build confidence and reach their full potential in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Location: Burnley
Contract: Full-time
Hours: 8.30am – 3.30pm
Salary: £14.25 - £15 per hour
Start Date: Tuesday 1st September 2026

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN in KS1
  • Support pupils with SEMH, ASD, ADHD or additional needs
  • Help implement individual support plans and interventions
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCo
  • Promote positive behaviour and emotional wellbeing
  • Adapt activities to meet individual learning needs
  • Monitor and report on pupil progress

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience working with children with SEN
  • A calm, patient and nurturing approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • An understanding of behaviour management strategies
  • A commitment to inclusion and safeguarding

Desirable Skills

  • Teaching Assistant or childcare qualification (Level 2 or 3)
  • Experience with EHCPs or targeted interventions
  • Knowledge of strategies such as visual supports, sensory activities or structured routines

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
