Teaching Personnel are seeking a passionate and experienced SEN Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a highly supportive and specialist educational provision in the Wigan area. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a setting that caters for pupils aged 11-19 years who require additional support to access education and achieve their full potential.

The school provides a nurturing, inclusive, and highly personalised learning environment for students with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) including, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN, Sensory processing needs

This specialist setting is known for its strong focus on individualised learning pathways, therapeutic support, life skills development, and preparing young people for adulthood. Staff work collaboratively to create engaging learning experiences that build confidence, independence, resilience, and future employability skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead small group and whole-class learning sessions in the teacher's absence.
• Deliver targeted intervention programmes to support academic and personal development.
• Adapt learning resources to meet individual pupil needs.
• Promote positive behaviour strategies and emotional regulation techniques.
• Monitor, record, and report on student achievements and engagement.
• Build strong, positive relationships with pupils to encourage confidence and independence.
• Support students with preparation for further education, employment, and independent living.

Requirements

• HLTA qualification or equivalent experience within a specialist educational setting.
• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND.
• Strong understanding of ASC, SEMH, SLCN, and learning difficulties.
• Ability to confidently lead learning activities and interventions.
• Excellent communication and behaviour management skills.
• Patient, resilient, and adaptable approach.
• Experience working within SEN schools, alternative provisions, or specialist settings is highly desirable.
• Team Teach, MAPA, or other behaviour support training would be advantageous but is not essential.
