SEN Cover Supervisor

Location: Northampton
Sector: SEN Support
Job Type: Full Time / Part-time
Start Date: Immediate

We are seeking a confident and compassionate SEN Cover Supervisor to join a special needs school in Reading supporting students with autism, communication needs, dyslexia, and anxiety-related barriers to learning.

In this role, you will supervise classes during teacher absences, ensuring continuity of learning while supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional development in a structured and nurturing environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage classes in the absence of the teacher
  • Deliver pre-set lesson plans and ensure students remain on task
  • Provide individual and small group support to students with SEN
  • Support behaviour management in line with school policies
  • Encourage positive engagement and participation in learning
  • Assist with communication, social interaction, and independence skills
  • Work closely with teaching staff and SENCO to support student progress

Skills & Qualifications

  • GCSE Maths & English (Grade 4/C or above)
  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN (e.g. ASD, SEMH)
  • Strong behaviour management and classroom supervision skills
  • Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and adaptable
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 TA or Cover Supervisor training) are desirable

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
