Teaching Personnel is currently recruiting for a SEN / ALN Teaching Assistant to support pupils in schools across the NP10 area of Newport.
We are seeking a compassionate, adaptable, and proactive individual who is passionate about supporting children with additional learning needs. The successful candidate will be comfortable working with pupils who have a wide range of needs and confident providing 1:1 support when required.
About the Role
As a SEN / ALN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping pupils access learning, build confidence, and achieve their full potential.
You may be required to support children with:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- ADHD
- Speech, Language and Communication Needs
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH)
- Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties
- Other Additional Learning Needs (ALN)
The role may involve working on a 1:1 basis, in small groups, or supporting pupils within the wider classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored support to pupils with a range of additional learning needs.
- Deliver effective 1:1 support where required.
- Assist teachers in creating an inclusive and engaging learning environment.
- Support pupils' academic, social, and emotional development.
- Encourage positive behaviour and engagement in learning.
- Build strong relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers.
- Adapt support strategies to meet individual pupil needs.
Essential Skills
✔ Comfortable supporting children with a wide range of SEN and ALN needs.
✔ Confident working independently with pupils on a 1:1 basis.
✔ Patient, resilient, and nurturing approach.
✔ Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
✔ Ability to adapt to different learning styles and support requirements.
✔ Passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning.
Registration & Compliance Requirements
To work through Teaching Personnel, all successful applicants must complete our registration and safeguarding process, including:
✔ Enhanced DBS Certificate on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for a DBS through Teaching Personnel.
✔ Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).
✔ Provision of professional references covering the last two years.
✔ Completion of all required vetting and safeguarding checks before being cleared for work.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
