Youth Engagement Mentor (SEMH)

Trafford | Full-Time | Term-Time Only | Immediate Start Available

Teaching Personnel are seeking a passionate and resilient Youth Engagement Mentor to join a specialist secondary provision in the Trafford area. This rewarding role involves supporting students aged 11-16 who face barriers to learning due to Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, alongside conditions such as ASC, ADHD, anxiety, trauma, attachment difficulties, and behavioural challenges.

The school is known for its nurturing approach, small class sizes, and strong focus on helping young people build confidence, develop life skills, and successfully re-engage with education. Staff work closely together to create a positive and supportive environment where every student is encouraged to achieve their potential.

The Role

You will support students both inside and outside the classroom, helping them overcome challenges, regulate emotions, and engage positively in school life.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group mentoring support.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students.
  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
  • Encourage engagement with learning and school activities.
  • Help students develop confidence, resilience, and social skills.
  • Work alongside teachers and pastoral teams to support individual student needs.
  • Promote a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Experience working with young people in education, youth work, mentoring, coaching, care, or support settings.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Calm, patient, and resilient approach.
  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
  • DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
