About the Role
Teaching Personnel is delighted to be supporting a warm, nurturing primary school in Egremont, Wirral, known for its family‑centred ethos and strong focus on wellbeing.
The school is seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a pupil with social, emotional and mental‑health needs, helping them feel safe, regulated and ready to learn within a highly supportive environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing calm, consistent 1:1 support to a pupil with SEMH needs, helping them regulate emotions and develop positive coping strategies.
- Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and pastoral team to implement personalised emotional‑regulation plans and behaviour‑support strategies.
- Encouraging positive relationships, resilience and social skills through patient, nurturing interactions.
- Supporting the pupil’s access to learning through tailored activities that reduce anxiety, build confidence and foster independence.
- Using de‑escalation approaches and trauma‑informed practice to maintain a safe, supportive learning environment.
- Assisting with behaviour plans, emotional check‑ins and the use of sensory or therapeutic tools.
- Contributing to wider classroom activities when appropriate, helping maintain a positive and inclusive classroom culture.
- Building strong, trusting relationships with pupils, staff and parents/carers to support consistent SEMH development.

- The school has a designated SEMH resourced provision, supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental‑health needs.

What we are looking for:
- Experience supporting children with SEMH needs or behaviour‑related challenges.
- A calm, patient approach focused on nurturing and building trust.
- Understanding of trauma‑informed practice, emotional‑regulation strategies or behaviour‑support approaches (desirable but not essential).
- Previous experience within educational, care or youth‑work settings.
- An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
- GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths (or equivalent).

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
