About the Role

We are looking to appoint a committed and resilient SEMH Teacher to join our specialist provision in Tonbridge. This is a full-time role supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom may have experienced barriers to education.

The successful candidate will deliver a broad and engaging curriculum, tailored to meet the individual needs of learners, while fostering a safe, supportive, and structured environment that enables students to thrive both academically and personally.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver differentiated lessons across a range of subjects (or a core subject specialism) to meet the needs of SEMH learners
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students to support engagement and progress
  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies in line with the school’s approach
  • Create a nurturing and structured classroom environment
  • Monitor, assess, and track student progress, adapting provision where necessary
  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, pastoral teams, and external agencies
  • Contribute to individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support plans
  • Promote students’ emotional wellbeing, resilience, and social development

 

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs or additional needs
  • Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships and engage hard-to-reach learners
  • A patient, flexible, and empathetic approach
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children

Desirable:

  • Experience in alternative provision, PRU, or specialist settings
  • Training in behaviour management approaches (e.g., Team Teach)
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
