About the Role
Teaching Personnel is seeking a passionate and resilient Art Teacher to work within a specialist educational setting in the Tonbridge area. The school supports pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, many of whom may display challenging behaviour and require a highly supportive, structured learning environment.

This role is ideal for an experienced teacher who is confident in managing behaviour positively and creatively, and who understands how art can be used as a powerful tool to support emotional expression, engagement, and personal development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging Art lessons that are accessible, differentiated, and tailored to meet the needs of pupils with SEMH needs.

  • Use creative approaches to encourage self-expression, confidence, and emotional regulation through art.

  • Manage and respond effectively to challenging behaviour using positive behaviour strategies and trauma-informed approaches.

  • Create a safe, inclusive, and structured classroom environment that supports student wellbeing and learning.

  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, pastoral staff, and leadership to support pupils’ individual learning and behaviour plans.

  • Monitor student progress and adapt teaching strategies to ensure all pupils can achieve meaningful outcomes.

  • Promote creativity, independence, and resilience within the classroom.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), QTLS, or equivalent teaching qualification (unqualified teachers with strong relevant experience may also be considered).

  • Proven experience working with pupils displaying challenging behaviour.

  • Experience supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

  • Strong classroom management and behaviour support skills.

  • Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with students who may have had negative experiences of education.

  • A creative and flexible teaching approach, with the ability to adapt lessons to meet diverse needs.

  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working within a specialist, alternative provision, or SEMH setting.

  • Training in behaviour management, trauma-informed practice, or therapeutic approaches.

  • Experience working with small class sizes and highly differentiated learning.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
