Job description

Job Title: SEMH Support Worker (Social, Emotional & Mental Health)
Location: Blackburn
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time (flexible options available)

About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Support Worker to join our educational setting in Blackburn. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people who require additional support with their social, emotional, and mental health needs.

You will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and external professionals to provide tailored support, helping students to engage positively with learning and develop essential life skills.

Key Responsibilities
Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH needs
Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to support their emotional well-being
Assist in the development and implementation of individual support plans
Support students in managing behaviour in line with school policies
Encourage engagement in learning and promote a positive classroom environment
Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to staff and parents where appropriate
Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and external agencies

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs (in education or similar settings)
A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
The ability to manage challenging behaviour positively and effectively
A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable learners
Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Youth Work, or equivalent) are desirable but not essential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
