Location: Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT)
Contract: Full-time | Term-time only
Start Date: January 2026
Salary: £89.38 – £100 per day (dependent on experience)
About the Role
We are recruiting motivated, resilient Secondary Teaching Assistants to support pupils within a welcoming and supportive secondary school in Rhondda Cynon Taf. This is a highly rewarding role, ideal for individuals passionate about making a positive impact on young people’s lives.
You will work closely with students who may present challenging behaviour or additional emotional and social needs, providing both in-class support and 1:1 mentoring outside of lessons. Welsh speakers are strongly encouraged to apply, as bilingual support is highly valued.
Key Responsibilities

Support pupils with behavioural, emotional, and social needs in a secondary school environment

Provide 1:1 mentoring and targeted interventions to help pupils regulate emotions and engage in learning

Assist teachers with differentiated learning activities and classroom management

Promote positive behaviour strategies and encourage attendance, engagement, and confidence

Help maintain a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment

Work collaboratively with teachers, ALN/SEN teams, pastoral staff, parents/carers, and external professionals

Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour, and outcomes accurately
Person Specification
Essential
✔ Experience working with young people (education, youth work, care, or similar)
✔ Confidence managing challenging behaviour and de-escalating situations calmly
✔ Strong communication and relationship-building skills
✔ Empathetic, patient, and resilient approach
✔ Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Desirable
⭐ Experience in a secondary school setting
⭐ Welsh-speaking or bilingual (Welsh/English)
⭐ Knowledge of ALN, SEMH, trauma-informed practice, or behaviour support
⭐ Relevant qualifications (Teaching Assistant Level 2/3, Youth Work, Psychology, Criminology, etc.)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
