Secondary Teaching Assistant

(Welsh Speakers Encouraged to Apply)

Location: Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT)
Contract: Full-time | Term-time only
Start Date: January 2026
Salary: £89.38 – £100 per day (dependent on experience)


About the Role

We are recruiting motivated, resilient Secondary Teaching Assistants to support pupils within a welcoming and supportive secondary school in Rhondda Cynon Taf. This is a highly rewarding role, ideal for individuals passionate about making a positive impact on young people’s lives.

You will work closely with students who may present challenging behaviour or additional emotional and social needs, providing both in-class support and 1:1 mentoring outside of lessons. Welsh speakers are strongly encouraged to apply, as bilingual support is highly valued.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with behavioural, emotional, and social needs in a secondary school environment

  • Provide 1:1 mentoring and targeted interventions to help pupils regulate emotions and engage in learning

  • Assist teachers with differentiated learning activities and classroom management

  • Promote positive behaviour strategies and encourage attendance, engagement, and confidence

  • Help maintain a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, ALN/SEN teams, pastoral staff, parents/carers, and external professionals

  • Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour, and outcomes accurately


Person Specification

Essential

✔ Experience working with young people (education, youth work, care, or similar)
✔ Confidence managing challenging behaviour and de-escalating situations calmly
✔ Strong communication and relationship-building skills
✔ Empathetic, patient, and resilient approach
✔ Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Desirable

⭐ Experience in a secondary school setting
Welsh-speaking or bilingual (Welsh/English)
⭐ Knowledge of ALN, SEMH, trauma-informed practice, or behaviour support
⭐ Relevant qualifications (Teaching Assistant Level 2/3, Youth Work, Psychology, Criminology, etc.)
