Job description

Are you passionate about supporting young people in their educational journey? We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Secondary Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive secondary school. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is committed to helping students achieve their full potential academically, socially and emotionally.

Working closely with teachers and support staff, you will provide high-quality classroom support and contribute to creating a positive, engaging and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support teachers in the delivery of engaging and effective lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce learning and improve academic progress.
  • Provide targeted support for students with SEND, including Autism, ADHD, SEMH, Speech and Language needs, and learning difficulties.
  • Assist with the implementation of Education Health Care Plans (EHCPs) and individual support strategies.
  • Promote positive behaviour and support students in developing self-regulation and social skills.
  • Help students remain focused, engaged and confident within lessons.
  • Support literacy, numeracy and intervention programmes.
  • Encourage student independence while providing appropriate guidance and support.
  • Assist with classroom preparation, displays and learning resources.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teaching staff.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, staff, parents and carers.
  • Support students during breaktimes, educational visits and enrichment activities where required.
  • Uphold safeguarding procedures and contribute to student welfare and wellbeing.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people in an educational, youth work, sports coaching, mentoring or care setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive and professional relationships with students.
  • Patient, resilient and adaptable approach to supporting learning.
  • A genuine passion for education and helping young people succeed.
  • Good literacy, numeracy and ICT skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience working within a secondary school setting.
  • Experience supporting students with SEND, SEMH, Autism or ADHD.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management strategies.
  • Relevant qualifications in Education, Childcare, Youth Work or Special Educational Needs.
  • Future aspirations to train as a teacher, pastoral lead or educational professional.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
