Location: Newport, South Wales
Start Date: 2nd September 2026
Pay: From £172.98 per day
Contract: Full-Time | Maternity Cover (Full Academic Year)

Secondary Science Teacher Required – Newport

Teaching Personnel is recruiting a dedicated and enthusiastic Secondary Science Teacher to join a welcoming secondary school in Newport from 2nd September 2026.

This is a full-time maternity cover position for the full academic year, with the exciting possibility of securing a permanent teaching contract should you impress during your placement.

The school welcomes applications from Biology Teachers, Chemistry Teachers and Physics Teachers, provided you are confident delivering Key Stage 3 (KS3) General Science. If you have a notice period to work, the school is happy to accommodate the right candidate.

The Role

As a Science Teacher, you will:

  • Deliver engaging Science lessons across Key Stage 3 and your specialist subject at Key Stage 4 where appropriate.
  • Inspire pupils aged 11–16 to develop confidence and enthusiasm for Science.
  • Support targeted intervention groups, helping students who require additional academic support.
  • Adapt your teaching style to meet the needs of learners with varying abilities.
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour and classroom engagement.
  • Work collaboratively with an experienced and supportive Science department.

Candidate Requirements

To be successful, you will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or be an Early Career Teacher (ECT).
  • Previous experience teaching Science within a secondary school (placements considered for ECTs).
  • A specialism in Biology, Chemistry or Physics.
  • Confidence teaching KS3 General Science.
  • Excellent classroom management skills.
  • Strong knowledge of the Welsh secondary Science curriculum.
  • A genuine passion for helping young people achieve their potential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
