Science Graduate Teaching Assistant – Wigan

Are you a recent or soon-to-be graduate in Biology, Chemistry or Physics?
Considering a future in teaching and keen to gain classroom experience in a secondary school setting?

We are working in partnership with a Wigan-based secondary school to appoint a Science Graduate Teaching Assistant to join the team from September 2025. This is an exciting opportunity to gain paid experience in education while developing your skills and confidence in a supportive environment.

Role Overview:

  • Science Graduate Teaching Assistant – Biology, Chemistry or Physics specialism

  • Full-time position starting September 2025

  • Earn £1790–£1900 per month, dependent on hours and responsibilities

  • Access to ongoing CPD and training provided by both the school and Teaching Personnel

  • Ideal experience for anyone considering a future PGCE or teacher training route

The school are looking to appoint a graduate who can:

  • Support teachers across the Science department, assisting with lesson preparation, demonstrations and classroom management

  • Provide 1:1 or small group intervention to help students prepare for GCSEs

  • Deliver pre-planned lessons in the absence of the teacher (cover supervision)

  • Help maintain a positive and engaging learning environment across Biology, Chemistry and Physics lessons

  • Known for strong academic performance in Science and excellent facilities

  • Located between Wigan and Chorley, easily accessible from the M6 and A577

  • Onsite parking available for staff, with good public transport links across Wigan, Leigh and surrounding areas

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
