Reception Teaching Assistant
Job description
We are seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and nurturing Reception Class Teaching Assistant to join our Early Years team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about supporting young children at the very start of their educational journey.
Working closely with the class teacher, you will help deliver high-quality learning experiences in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, ensuring all pupils feel safe, supported, and inspired to learn.
Reception Class Teaching Assistant (EYFS Qualified)
Location: Nelson
Salary: £14.25 - £15 per hour
Contract Type: Full-time
Start Date: Tuesday 1st September
Key Responsibilities
- Support the class teacher in delivering engaging, play-based EYFS learning activities
- Assist with planning and implementing developmentally appropriate lessons
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment
- Support children’s social, emotional, and academic development
- Provide one-to-one and small group support where required
- Observe, assess, and record pupil progress in line with EYFS standards
- Help maintain a safe and organised learning space
- Build strong relationships with children, staff, and parents/carers
Essential Requirements
- A recognised EYFS qualification (Level 2 or above)
- Experience working with children in an Early Years setting
- Sound understanding of the EYFS framework and child development
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A caring, patient, and proactive approach
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
Desirable
- Previous experience in a school reception class
- Experience supporting children with additional needs (SEND)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
