Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant – Full-Time Role in Stockport

Teaching Personnel is seeking a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Stockport. This is a full-time position, starting ASAP and continuing until the end of the academic year, with the opportunity for a permanent role based on performance. The pay for this role is £419.25 - £500 per week.

Role Overview

This role is ideal for a psychology graduate who is looking to gain valuable experience in an educational setting, particularly for those considering a future career in teaching, educational psychology, or mental health support. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and SEN coordinators to support students with their learning, emotional well-being, and classroom engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing Targeted Support: Work one-on-one and in small groups with students who require additional help, particularly those with Special Educational Needs (SEN), Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, or behavioural challenges.
  • Classroom Assistance: Support teachers in delivering lessons, ensuring students stay engaged and understand key concepts.
  • Supporting Emotional Well-being: Help students develop confidence, resilience, and a positive mindset towards learning.
  • Behaviour Management: Assist in implementing behaviour strategies to maintain a positive and productive classroom environment.
  • Collaborating with Staff: Work closely with teachers, SEN coordinators, and pastoral teams to ensure students receive tailored support.
  • Tracking Progress: Monitor students’ development, providing feedback to teachers and suggesting interventions when necessary.
  • Encouraging Independence: Help students develop strategies for independent learning and self-regulation.

What We Are Looking For

  • A Psychology Graduate: Ideal for those with a degree in psychology or a related field.
  • Passion for Education and Well-being: An interest in child development, mental health, and supporting young people in an educational setting.
  • Experience Working with Young People (Desirable): This can include tutoring, mentoring, youth work, SEN support, or voluntary roles in schools.
  • Excellent Communication and Empathy: The ability to build positive relationships with students and provide emotional and academic support.
  • Adaptability and Patience: A proactive approach to supporting students with a range of needs and learning styles.
