Job description
We are seeking a confident and resilient PRU Teaching Assistant to join a Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in East Lancashire on a full-time, long-term basis.
Role Details:

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm

Pay: £13.75 – £14.50 per hour

The Role:
As a PRU Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils who may display challenging behaviour and who have been excluded or are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education. You will work closely with teaching staff to provide consistent support, help manage behaviour, and create a safe, structured learning environment.
Expectations of Working in a PRU:
Working in a PRU requires strong behaviour management skills, resilience, and a calm, authoritative approach. Pupils may have social, emotional, mental health needs and may present with challenging behaviour. You will be expected to set clear boundaries, build positive relationships, de-escalate situations effectively, and act as a positive role model. Patience, consistency, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are essential.

Has experience working with challenging behaviour or SEMH needs

Demonstrates strong behaviour management skills

Is confident, firm, and fair

Can build rapport with pupils while maintaining clear expectations

Works well as part of a supportive team

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
