SEN Primary Teaching Assistant – Rochdale

About the Role
Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Rochdale, supporting pupils with a range of special educational needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Speech and Language Difficulties, Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and more complex needs such as Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD).
This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with children who require additional support to access learning and thrive in a nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Individualised Support: Provide tailored assistance to pupils with varying SEN needs, adapting resources and strategies to meet individual learning plans.
- Classroom Assistance: Support the teacher in delivering engaging lessons, ensuring pupils remain focused and included.
- Intervention Delivery: Implement small-group or one-to-one interventions to develop literacy, numeracy, and social skills.
- Behaviour Management: Use positive behaviour strategies and de-escalation techniques to maintain a calm and safe learning environment.
- Communication & Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, SENCO, and external professionals to ensure consistent support for pupils.
- Progress Monitoring: Record observations, track progress, and contribute to reviews of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Personal Care (where required): Assist with daily routines and personal care for pupils with more complex needs.
- Promote Inclusion: Encourage independence, confidence, and participation in all aspects of school life.
About You
- Essential:
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
- Previous experience supporting children with SEN needs in a school or similar setting.
- Resilient, empathetic, and patient with a genuine passion for helping children succeed.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
- Desirable:
- Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, or other communication strategies.
- Understanding of sensory needs and regulation techniques.
- Experience with EHCP processes and differentiated learning strategies.
