Primary SEN Teaching Assistant

Job Description

We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Primary SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team in South East England, specifically in Buckinghamshire, Milton Keynes. This is a temporary position, with the expectation to work full-time hours.

As a Primary SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be working in the field of education and training, specifically focused on providing support to children with special educational needs (SEN). Your role will involve assisting the class teacher in delivering tailored educational programmes to meet the individual needs of SEN students.

Job Duties

  • Supporting the class teacher in planning and preparing lessons that cater to the specific needs of SEN students
  • Assisting students with their learning by providing one-to-one or small group support
  • Implementing strategies to promote inclusion and ensure that students with SEN can fully participate in classroom activities
  • Monitoring and recording the progress of SEN students, providing feedback to the class teacher
  • Helping to create a positive and supportive learning environment for all students
  • Collaborating with other professionals, such as educational psychologists and speech therapists, to develop and implement individualised education plans
  • Providing personal care and support, as required, to students with physical disabilities or medical conditions
  • Assisting with the management of behaviour and implementing behaviour management strategies
  • Supporting students during outings, trips, and extracurricular activities
  • Participating in training and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in SEN education

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid and up-to-date Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check

Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Skills

  • Prior experience working with children with special educational needs (SEN) in an educational setting
  • Strong understanding of different learning styles and strategies to support SEN students
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents/guardians
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the development and well-being of SEN students
  • Basic knowledge of relevant legislation and policies related to SEN education
  • Good organisational and time management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
  • Additional training or qualifications in special educational needs

Working Conditions

The Primary SEN Teaching Assistant role involves working within a vibrant and inclusive primary school environment. You will primarily be based in the classroom, but may also provide support in other areas of the school as needed. The role may require occasional physical exertion, such as assisting students with mobility or sensory needs. You will work closely with the class teacher and other professionals involved in SEN education.

The position offers a competitive salary of £80 - £90 per day, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
