Primary SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Milton Keynes

Job Type: Temporary, expected to work Full-Time hours

Salary: £80 - £90 Per day

Job Duties:

  • Assist the primary school teacher in providing support and guidance to students with special educational needs (SEN)
  • Implement individualised education plans (IEPs) and adapt teaching materials to meet the specific needs of students
  • Work closely with students on a one-to-one basis or in small groups to reinforce learning and promote academic progress
  • Support students with personal care tasks, including toileting, feeding, and mobility assistance, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times
  • Monitor and record students' progress, behaviours, and achievements, reporting any concerns to the teacher or SEN coordinator
  • Collaborate with other staff members, such as therapists and social workers, to create a holistic learning environment for students
  • Assist in the preparation and organisation of classroom activities, including setting up equipment and resources
  • Encourage positive behaviour and foster a nurturing and inclusive classroom atmosphere
  • Attend meetings and training sessions to enhance professional development and stay updated on best practises in SEN education

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate or willing to apply for one
  • No expereince is required but it is helpful. 


  • Completion of relevant training courses in special educational needs


  • Prior experience working with children with special educational needs is highly desirable

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Understanding of various SEN conditions and strategies to support students with diverse needs
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively within a team
  • Strong organisational skills to assist in the preparation and management of resources

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Higher education qualification in a relevant field, such as Special Education or Psychology
  • Additional certifications in specific SEN areas, such as autism spectrum disorders or speech and language difficulties

Working Conditions:

  • Work primarily takes place within a primary school setting
  • May involve assisting students with personal care tasks and physical activities
  • Regular collaboration with teachers, therapists, and other support staff
  • Subject to school term dates and hours
  • Occasional attendance at meetings and training sessions outside of regular hours

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
