Pastoral Support Officer
Job description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Pastoral Support Officer to join our supportive secondary school community in Rochdale. This is a vital role focused on promoting student wellbeing, improving behaviour, and supporting pupils to overcome barriers to learning.
The successful candidate will have prior experience in a similar pastoral, behaviour, or student support role within a secondary school setting and will be confident working with young people across Key Stages 3 and 4.
Key Responsibilities

Provide targeted pastoral support to students, including those with social, emotional, or behavioural needs
-
Monitor and track student attendance, behaviour, and wellbeing
-
Work closely with Heads of Year, safeguarding leads, and senior leadership
-
Liaise effectively with parents/carers to support positive outcomes
-
Deliver interventions to improve engagement, resilience, and personal development
-
Support behaviour management strategies and restorative approaches
-
Contribute to safeguarding and child protection processes in line with school policy
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Proven experience working in a pastoral or behaviour support role within a secondary school
-
Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
-
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
-
The ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
-
A proactive and solution-focused approach
-
Experience working with vulnerable students or those with SEMH needs

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
